ACT – Active Temperature Controlled System – an active temperature control system for transported loads
ADR – European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road
AEO – Authorized Economic Operator – Status of the Authorized Economic Operator, thanks to which customs clearance is even more efficient, the certificate means a number of authorizations in the customs control process in the European Union, fewer controls, and in the event of their occurrence, they are carried out as a priority
AGCT – European Agreement on Important International Combined Transport Lines – Agreement on important international consolidated transport lines and accompanying facilities
AMB – activity based management – cost management. A method of identifying and evaluating activities carried out to analyze the value chain
AMS – Automated Manifest System – an automatic data reporting system for exports to the USA
AOG – Aircraft on Ground – a term used for a problem that can stop air transport
APR – adjustable pallet racking – adjustable pallet racks that adapt to the dimensions of forklifts and to the dimensions of unit loads
ASCII – American Standard Code for Information Interchange / American Standard Code for Information Interchange – a computer code described in the ISO 646 standard, containing 128 alphanumeric and control characters
ASO – Automated Store Ordering – automatic ordering when the stock on the shelf falls below the set level
ATA – Air Transport Association of America – American air transport association
ATA Carnet (ATA Carnet) – an international customs document that enables efficient customs clearance of goods exported for acquisition, exhibition and professional equipment purposes
ATB – Air Transport Board of Canada – Canada’s air transport board
ATP – Agreement on the international transport of perishable food products and special equipment used for such transport
ATT – Goods attached to air waybill – goods attached to the air waybill
AVI – live animals
AWB – Air Waybill – air waybill
B
B – rate classification code, indicating the basic charge applicable to the air waybill
(B/L) – bill of loading – bill of lading – sea waybill
BAF – Bunker Adjustment Factor – an allowance for the increase in the price of marine fuel
BAG – the German equivalent of the Polish Road Transport Inspection. BAG controllers have the right to inspect domestic and foreign entities
BGL – German Association of Road Freight Transport, Logistics and Disposal
BIG – oversized cargo
BUC – Bulk Unitization Charges – unification of unit charges
BUP – a fee unification program, a unit operated by the sender/recipient
BVL – Logistics Association in Germany
C
C – code in the rate classification, indicating the SCR (specified commodity rate), in the case of an air waybill
CAF – Currency Adjustment Factor – an indexation supplement caused by a change in the exchange rate
CAO – Cargo aircraft only – only cargo aircraft
CASS – Cargo Accounts Settlement System – a settlement system designed to simplify settlements between airlines and freight forwarders
CAT – Serving the transported cargo
Cbm – (cubic, cubic meter), these are usually dimensions measured in the following way: length x width x height
CC – Charges Collect – charging fees
CCA – Cargo Charges Correction Advise – advice on correcting transport charges
CEMT – permission for the carriage of goods between CEMT member states issued to enterprises. Permits are issued by the competent ministry of transport or trade
CFS – container freight station – a container loading point. A place intended for the unloading and loading of containers to and from ships
CFR – cost and freight – cost and freight. The seller covers the transport costs to the destination. The risk for the goods is transferred to the buyer already at the time of loading on the ship
CIF – Cost, Insurance and Freight – the seller’s fee covering the costs, insurance and freight in the event of loss or damage to the goods during transit to the port of destination
CIM – international convention on the transport of goods by rail
CIP – Carriage and Insurance paid to – carriage and insurance paid to a specific destination
CISF – additional fee for sea transport from China
CITES – Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora
CKD – Completely Knocked Down (car) – car assembly system on the production line – individual body elements are delivered to the production line and assembled on site
CMR – a convention applicable to international road transport carried out for commercial purposes. The abbreviation CMR also refers to the international road bill of lading, which is a personal and non-transferable document
COD – Cash on Delivery – payment on delivery
COL – Cool goods
COM – Company mail
Container – A container standardized by ISO standards, intended for the transport of goods by several means of transport without reloading. It is made of steel, aluminum or glass fiber reinforced plastic. Containers usually have a capacity of 2.5 tonnes per cubic metre. In international sea transport, 20′, 40′ and more and more often also 45′ containers are used
CPT – carriage paid to – carriage paid to a specific destination. Equivalent to CFR in transport other than sea and inland waterways
CRO – Central Reservation Office – a system that allows you to receive reservation requests by phone and for immediate service
CRP – Capacity Requirements Planning, pl. volume requirement planning
CTC (A) – Canadian Transport Commission (Air Transport Committee) – Canadian Transport Commission
C-TPAT – U.S. Customs and Trade Partnership Against Terrorism. Kuehne + Nagel has joined the initiative to strengthen supply chain security
cu. others – cubic inch/es – a unit of cubic inches
cu.ft / cft – Cubic foot/feet – a unit of a cubic foot
CVGK – gross customs value per kilogram
CVGP – gross customs value per pound
Cy. – compensation/correction factor for different currencies
D
DOWN. or D/O – Delivery Order – a document ordering the transfer of the transported cargo to the party named by the buyer/owner in the bill of lading. Direct delivery of goods to the warehouseman who issues stock receipts
D/A – Document Against Acceptance – document acceptance collection, consisting in the issuance of documents in exchange for securing payment by the payer’s acceptance of the term draft
DAF – Delivered at frontier – in international transport, it defines the exporter’s obligation to deliver goods to the border location
D/N – debit note – debit note. A document used to charge costs and/or service fees and adjust the value of the relevant invoice
D/P – Document Against Payment – documentary cash collection. Issuance of a document in exchange for payment
DDP – Delivery Duty Paid – delivered, duty paid. The exporter is responsible for delivering the goods to the destination and covering all costs related to taxes and customs clearance
DDU – Delivery Duty Unpaid – delivered, duty unpaid. The exporter covers all door-to-door transport costs, except for the costs of customs clearance and duties, which the importer is obliged to cover
DEQ – Delivered ex quay (duty paid) – the exporter delivers the goods to the border at the port of destination
DES – Delivered ex ship – the exporter delivers the goods to the buyer at the agreed port of destination
DGR – Dangerous Goods Regulations – a set of regulations regulating the manner of transporting and documenting the transport of dangerous goods by air.
DSD – Direct store delivery, pl. Direct deliveries to stores – delivery of goods directly from the supplier to the store, bypassing intermediate distribution links
DIP – Diplomatic mail – diplomatic mail
DOT – Department of Transportation (of the USA) – the United States Department of Transportation
DWT – Dead Weight Tonnage – ship’s carrying capacity – the basic parameter determining the size of the ship and its carrying capacity
E
E – code in the classification of air waybill rates, denoting turnover rates (e.g. a sudden increase in volume may be associated with a change in the price level)
EAN – European Article Number – is the European Commodity Code, used to designate units of goods, especially retail products
EAT – foodstuffs
EBS – Emergency Bunker Surcharge – a special surcharge to compensate for fluctuations in fuel prices, each time the decision to charge it is made by the shipowner performing the transport
EORI – Economic Entity Registration and Identification Number. The number assigned to each economic operator and, where applicable, to other persons, is used to identify those persons in dealings with customs authorities throughout the European Union

ePOD – electronic Proof of Delivery
ETA – estimated time of arrival – the estimated time of arrival of the goods at the destination
EWB – Express Waybill waybill in intermodal transport
ETD – estimated time of departure – estimated time of departure of the ship from the port, abbreviation used in maritime transport
ERS – Equipment Imbalance Surcharge – a special surcharge to offset the shipowner’s losses due to unbalanced availability of containers
(EUR) – Europallet, wooden pallet with dimensions of 1200 x 800 mm; marked with the letters EUR
F
FAK – Freight All Kind – carrier’s tariff classification for various types of goods that are collected and sent together at one freight rate. Consolidated shipments are generally classified as FAK
FAF – fuel adjustment factor;
FAS – Free alongside ship – Delivered to the ship’s side at the designated port of loading. The exporter has direct access to the ship for loading, e.g. bulk cargo or non-containerized goods
FCA – free carrier, it means that the cargo has been delivered to the carrier
FCL – full load container;
FCR – Forwarders Certificate of Receipt – acceptance certificate, the main application of which is to support trade finance and the use of letters of credit
FEU – forty foot equivalent unit; a unit equivalent to a forty-foot container
FEFO – first expiry first out; the principle that goods with the shortest expiry date are issued first
FIATA – the „International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations”, a non-governmental organization, today represents an industry comprising approx. 40,000 forwarding companies, also known as „Transport Architects”, employing approximately 8-10 million people in 150 countries.
FIFO – first in first out; the principle according to which goods stored in the warehouse for the longest period of time are issued first
FOB – Free on Board – Delivered to the ship at the designated loading port
Form A – certificate of origin confirming the country or region of origin of the goods, required to take advantage of the preferential rate in the case of imports from developing and underdeveloped countries
FRI – frozen goods subject to veterinary or sanitary control
FRO – Frozen goods
FTK – Freight Tonne Kilometers – one FTK unit is one ton of cargo per one kilometer. FTK is used to measure actual transport traffic
FTL – full track load

GATT – General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade; The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, an agreement between countries around the world to remove trade barriers
GBL – U.S. Government Bill of Lading – a document that serves as a contract of carriage, setting out conditions to protect the interests of the government
GCI – Global Commerce Initiative; global trade initiativea non-profit organization dedicated to advancing supply chains by jointly setting standards and business processes
GCR – General Cargo Rate; pl. general cargo rate; the rate applied to a specific class of goods
GDP (*X = Distribution) – Standard for Pharma/Healthcare Products
GXP (Good X Practice) – Standard for Food Safety in Storage, Picking, Transport and Repacking
H
HACCP – Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points; pl. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points – an organizational system aimed at excluding contamination or contamination of food products, guaranteeing consumer safety
HAWB – House Air Waybill; pl. forwarding air waybill – contains a list of individual shipments consolidated for transport purposes, which lists the price for carriage at the rate offered to the customer by the forwarder.
HBL – house bill of loading – a document issued by the forwarder at the time he receives the goods from the sender; HBL is a document that relates to a specific cargo specified in the Sea Waybill
HEA – Heavy cargo – loads weighing from 150 kg and more
HEG – Hatching eggs – a designation for the transport of eggs in controlled temperature and humidity
HS – Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System; pl. Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System – a globally recognized uniform classification of products
HQ – high cube – containers whose height exceeds 120 Inches
HUM – Human remains in coffins – marking the transport of human remains in a coffin

IATA – International Air Transport Association – International Air Transport Association
ICAO – International Civil Aviation Organization – International Civil Aviation Organization
ICC – International Chamber of Commerce – International Chamber of Commerce

INTRM – Intermediate point – an intermediate point on the route between two other points that are clearly listed in the certificate or tariff of the transport company.
ISO – International Standardization Organization – International Organization for Standardization, dealing with the standardization of various fields
ISO 14001 – one of the ISO standards used in environmental management
ISO 17799 – one of the ISO standards – code of conduct in the field of information security management
ISO 9001 – one of the ISO standards for quality management
ISO/TS 16949 – automotive technical specification
ISPS – International Ship & Port Facility Security feel – a fee charged by shipowners and sea ports in connection with the imposed obligation to raise the general level of security
ITU – Intermodal Transport Unit; containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers suitable for combined transport
J
JIT – Just in Time – a method of inventory management under which materials, goods and labor are to arrive or be replenished exactly when it is needed in the production process
K
K – rate classification code, indicating the rate per kilogram in the case of an air waybill
KPI – Key Performance Indicators – key performance indicators
L
LAR – Live Animals Regulation – regulation on live animals
L/C – Letter of Credit – letter of credit (form of payment in domestic and foreign settlements)
LCL – less than container load – a type of sea transport that allows the transport of cargo that is smaller than the entire sea container, the method of consolidation is used here, transporting several loads in one container
LDM – loading meters
LHO – Living human organs/blood – organs/blood
LIC – License required – required license
LLB / AWB – air waybill
LSFS – Low Sulfur Fuel Surcharge – an additional fee for the use of low-sulphur fuel, in accordance with the Marpol Convention on the protection of the marine environment
LSP – Logistics Service Provider – a logistics operator – a company providing a wide range of logistics services, most often in the form of packages including, among others, transportation, terminal handling, distribution and warehousing services and related, information and financial services
LTL – less than truck load – a term referring to partial load as part of road transport
M
M – rate classification code, indicating the minimum charges applicable to the air waybill
MAG – Magnetized material – magnetized material, defined in IATA regulations on dangerous goods
MAWB – Master Airway Bill – an air waybill issued by the carrier for collective shipments
MBL – Master Bill of Lading – a document issued directly by the main carrier after receiving the goods, unlike the HBL document
MCO – Miscellaneous Charges Order – a travel voucher used in air transport. It entitles you to purchase services from air carriers
MUW – Munitions of war – war ammunition
N
N – code in the classification of rates indicating the general rate for 1 kg of cargo, in the case of an air waybill
ON. – TACT (The Air Cargo Tariff and Rules) edition for North America
NCV – No Commercial Value / No Customs Value – no commercial value / no customs value
NDA – No dimensions available – no dimensions available
N.E.S. – Not elsewhere specified – indicates that some elements of the goods had a different number
NVD – No value Declared – no declared value
NWP – newspapers and magazines

OBX – Obnoxious cargo – the so-called „Unbearable loads”, i.e. goods such as furniture, car parts that do not comply with standard storage methods, items that are easily damaged, such as glass, high-value items, such as jewelry, and seasonal items (e.g., lawnmowers)
OCP – Civil Liability of the Carrier
OHG – Overhang item – a part of the vehicle outside its wheelbase
OTD – on-time delivery – timely deliveries to customers
OTP – On-time pick up – pickups on time
OWS – Overweight Surcharge – supplement, surcharge for 20-slab containers for the transport of heavy loads above the limit specified by the shipowner carrying out the transport (usually over 18t)

PBA – Paid by Agent – fee covered by the shipping agent
PEA – hunting trophies, skins and all articles made of/containing parts from species listed in CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species)

PSS – Peak Season Surcharge – a periodic seasonal surcharge introduced at times when the demand for freight on a specific market increases and shipowners are unable to increase the basic freight rates because they have been set for a longer period

Q – code in the classification of air waybill rates, indicating the rate in the case of cargo weight of 45 kg (100lbs) and more
QRT – Quick Ramp Transfer – quick transfer to the air ramp
QSHE – Quality, Safety, Health, Environment including Security – a department dealing with quality, safety, health and the natural environment and related safety
R
R – code in the classification of air waybill rates, indicating that a reduced rate has been applied
RAC – Reserved Air Cargo – reserved air cargo
RCL – Cryogenic liquid, defined as a liquid with a normal boiling point below –130 °F (–90 °C). The most common industrial gases that are transported, handled and stored in a liquid state at cryogenic temperatures are argon, helium, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen
RCM – corrosive agent
RCX – (Explosives 1.3C) designation in the UN classification system for the transport of explosives. This class includes, among others, rocket engine

REX – prohibited explosives of class 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4F, 1.5 and 1.6

RFW – dangerous goods when wet
RGX – (Explosives 1.3G) designation in the UN classification system for the transport of explosives. This class includes fireworks, smoke grenades, flares
RIS – substances that can cause infection
RMD – various types of dangerous goods
RNG – non-toxic and non-flammable gas
ROP – organic peroxide
ROX – oxidizer
RPB – a toxic substance
RPG – toxic gas
RRE – maximum amount of radioactive materials
RRW – radioactive material of the first category (I-white)
RRY – radioactive material of the second category (II and II-yellow)

RXB – (Explosives 1.4B) designation in the UN classification system for the transport of explosives. Shots belong to this class

S – code in the classification of air waybill rates, indicating that an additional charge has been applied
SAD – single administrative document – declaration of goods for customs clearance, a document required in the European Union
SAL – a shipment transported by sea and land
SCR – Specific Commodity Rate – the rate applicable to a specific commodity or group of commodities
SDR – Special Drawing Rights – supplementary, reserve currency assets, defined and maintained by the International Monetary Fund
SHL – Save human life – a code assigned to shipments containing e.g. oncological drugs, causing them to have a higher transport priority
SIC – a declaration made by the sender regarding the weight of the goods. It applies primarily to US trade and is used in intermodal transport
SITA – International Aviation Telecommunications Association
SKU – stock keeping unit – storage unit
SLI – Shipper’s :etter of Instruction – „letter” from the exporter, instructing the forwarder on how to handle the export shipment. The exporter authorizes the shipper to act as an authorized shipping agent for U.S. Customs Inspection and Export.
SMGS – a bill of lading, which is proof of the conclusion of the contract of carriage and acceptance of the goods by the carrier in international rail transport. This letter is only valid where the SMGS Agreement has been accepted
SOC – Shippper’s Own Container – a container belonging to the owner of the transported goods
SOLAS – means the „International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea”. In force since 1914. The first version was adopted in 1912 as a response to the Titanic disaster. Since then, the International Maritime Organization, established in 1948, has been developing and developing the SOLAS convention. Find out more on the SOLAS website
SOP – dedicated standard operating procedures
SPC – a fee charged by the carrier for filling or emptying the container
SPF – laboratory animals used in the animal testing process
STEM – confirmation by the shipper of acceptance of the notified sea vessel for loading within the specified period
SUR – Surface transportation – road, train or sea transport, not air, where the development of new connections between the airport and surface transport was slower than expected.
SWB – Sea Waybill – sea waybill
SWP – sporting weapon

TACT – The Air Cargo Tariff – an air cargo tariff containing rates, fees or regulations governing the application of rates, fees and terms of service, applicable in international air transport of cargo. IATA member airlines comply with the tariff rules set out by IATA
TAPA – Technology Asset Protections Association – Association for the Protection of Technological Assets
TAPA A FSR – requirements for the security of logistics facilities
TAPA B TSR – requirements for the safety of road transport
TARIC – a database maintained by the European Commission containing information on the current EU customs tariff
TEU – 20 feet equivalent unit; a unit of measurement equivalent to one 20-foot container
THC – Terminal Handling Charge – port / terminal fees charged by the port for container handling, such as reloading of the container in the port, dismantling, delivery to the warehouse and reloading to the truck
THD – Terminal Handling at Destination – port fees at the destination of one 20-slab container
TINA – Transport Infrastructure Needs Assessment – a network of European transport corridors
TIR – Transport International Routier – a set of rules resulting from the customs convention, used to facilitate international, European road freight transport through the use of TIR carnets
TOE – Terminal Operating System – terminal operating system
Transib – Siberian Railway – the longest railway line in the world
TSI – Technical Specification for Interoperability – applies to rail transport, technical specifications for interoperability
TT – transit time – transit time, i.e. transport from port A to port B
T1L – common transit procedure for cargo transported between EU countries and other countries
TWR – high-risk, dangerous goods that can be used contrary to their intended purpose
T/W – truck/wagon – an abbreviation for loading goods onto a car or wagon from the storage yard
U
U – code in the classification of air waybill rates, indicating the use of the basic ULD rate
UATP – Universal Air Travel Plan – the airline’s payment network, accepted by merchants in the field of air, rail, hotel and travel agency payments
UCP – Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary – a set of rules regarding the issuance and use of letters of credit
ULCC – Ultra Large Crude Carrier – a capesize ship with a carrying capacity of more than 321,000 tons DWT
ULD – Unit Load Device – a standardized load unit in air transport
UNCTAD – United Nations Conference on Trade and Development – United Nations Confederation for Trade and Development

VAN – Value Added Network; pl. added value network – a separate IT network, managed by the operator, enabling the transmission and sharing of electronic data
VAL – ang, Valuable cargo – high-value transport (over $ 1,000)
VAS – Value Added Service – services with added value
VCA – Value Chain Analysis; pl. supply chain analysis; is a method of identifying and assessing cost reduction opportunities in the supply chain
VGM – means the verified gross weight of the loaded container, which consists of: the weight of the goods, loading materials, pallets, crates, securing materials and the weight of the container
VLCC – Very Large Crude Carrier – a ship designed for the transport of bulk liquid cargoes with a carrying capacity (DWT) from 150,000 to 299,999 tons
VMI – Vendor Managed Inventory – inventory management by the supplier
VOL – ang. Volume – volume
VUN – Vulnerable cargo – transport of silver, works of art, cigarettes, coins, valuable stones, leather and high-quality clothes, passports, airline tickets, secret documents
W
W – code in the classification of air waybill rates, indicating an additional charge resulting from the weight of the transported cargo
W / WT – ton/metric ton
W.W. – worldwide edition of TACT (air transport tariff and rules)
W/M – weight – weight, freight calculation model per ton or one cubic meter of goods
WET – transport of wet materials that are not in waterproof packaging
